More than 25 years of experience studying and practising Japanese martial arts.

I have several years of teaching experience in both English and Japanese, working with students from different cultural and language backgrounds. I currently teach Japanese and ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) at secondary school level in New Zealand.

Kia ora! My name is Ivan, and I'm a passionate language teacher with a background in Japanese and English education. I have a degree in Linguistics and Languages, am fluent in Japanese, and have lived and trained in Japan for five years. I enjoy helping students build confidence, improve their communication skills and discover new cultures through language learning. Outside teaching, I'm passionate about Aikido and Japanese martial arts, fitness, travelling, Japanese culture, food and exploring new experiences. I love meeting people from different backgrounds and sharing my knowledge of languages and culture in a friendly, supportive and engaging environment.
