Hello. I'm a 33 year old medical student with about a decade of experience in tutoring, both privately and for companies such as numberworks or mathzwise.
My favourite subjects in school was always maths and physics. They seemed logical to me. If you can count, you can do addition. If you can do addition, you can do subtraction. If you can do 2+2+2, you can do 3x2 and therefore all other multiplication. If you can do Multiplication, you can do indexes, which means you can do algebra which means you can do calculus.
I've found that if someone is struggling with calculus it's often because there's something in algebra that never quite clicked. My approach to a problem that the student is struggling with has always been to break it down and show that it's almost never actually completely new. It's normally a new way to apply or look at a skill they learned years or months before. If you can revise those topics and show the connection to the current one, I find it helps with understanding the problem. And once you understand it, figuring out how to approach it becomes much simpler
Qualifications
I always did well in school. I got an excellence endorsement at high school in all 3 years of NCEA
I took IGCSE and A levels as well and got nothing below an A
I left school with 3 different scholarships and got accepted into medicine through the Health Science program
I spent one year doing an honours year and hope to finish my degree in 2020
Experiences
I started tutoring, simply be helping my class mates in school and university. However one of my friends suggested I may be able to help more than just them. I started private tutoring and found that I loved the challenge of trying to find the approach that will make a difficult topic make sense to a particular student. And I loved the shared feeling of accomplishment when they have that light bulb moment and understand

I am a classic nerd

I have never tried to hide my interest in popular culture and feel that there are almost no topics or hobbies that cannot be interesting if viewed through the right lens
